An innovative solution for over 100 years
Baling wire (a.k.a. bale wire, farm wire, bale ties, soft wire, & haywire) is commonly used in agricultural and industrial applications from mending fences to binding rectangular bales of hay or recycled materials. Invented in the early 1800’s, baling wire has been known as an ad hoc, “fix all”, like duct tape and chewing gum. During the Depression, the old saying went that “you can fix anything with some baling wire and spit.” Farmers would regularly have excess baling wire and are known to use it to hold everything together.
Even the Wright Brothers found use for the baling wire to hold their famous invention together. Their plane was made of canvas, steel tubing, and baling wire (and maybe some spit).
Many alternatives have been made to take the place of baling wire, but it is still around. In today’s world campaign to recycle, bale ties keep the mess together for easy transport. With that in mind, it’s safe to say that baling wire is part of the solution to save earth. If ever there was a baling wire super hero, he would be just as real as our firemen and soldiers.
