If you need to ship large items or keep heavy objects contained on a pallet, metal strapping is your best solution. Most commonly made with steel, this product is also referred to as steel strapping or banding. At Vulcan Wire, we sell durable, high-quality steel strapping, making it a great choice for your business.
Benefits of Steel
Steel is the oldest form of banding. It is an extremely popular choice thanks to its high tensile strength. It takes a lot of force to break even a very thin steel strap. It hardly stretches, which is a definite plus depending on your shipment type.
Steel strapping comes in a variety of different sizes, enabling it to meet many different shipping needs:
-Metal strapping widths range from ⅜ inch to 2 inches.
-Metal strapping thickness varies most commonly between 0.015 inches to 0.044 inches.
-For moderate needs, you can find strapping with a tensile strength from 675 psi to 2070 psi.
-For heavy-duty needs, you can find steel strapping with a tensile strength of up to 12,500 psi.
Our steel strapping will be painted and waxed to prevent corrosion and increase weather resistance. Not all steel strapping is made safe to handle. Quality steel strapping has been rolled and de-burred, meaning the edges have been smoothed out and the small, spiky metal nodes along the strap have been removed to prevent snags.
How to Use Metal Strapping
If you have decided to secure your packages with metal strapping, the next step is to learn the proper procedures for using it. No need to worry, though—once you have the proper tools, metal strapping is simple to apply and secure. Here’s how to use metal strapping:
-Choose the right size strapping for your job. If you are unsure of what size you need, contact Vulcan Wire, and a member of our expert team can help you choose the right strapping for your shipment.
-Obtain the proper tools to secure your strap. A manual banding tool and a way to seal the banding will be required to complete the job.
-After placing the metal strapping around the package, use your manual banding tool to apply tension and secure the load.
-Once the proper amount of tension has been applied, secure the banding and use your tool to cut the excess away.
Next, you need to select the proper strapping seals or buckles to complete the job. There are a few different ways to seal your package’s strapping. Typically, when working with steel strapping, you should opt for open metal seals, which can be put into place using a steel strapping sealer. However, there are also closed/thread-on, push-type, open-flange, and magazine-fed options. If you have any questions with regard to the seals and/or buckles you need, don’t hesitate to contact our team for assistance.
