Commingled Recycling: Cardboard, Shredded Paper, Aluminum, Scrap Metal, and Plastic

Recycling is one of the most effective ways to reduce environmental waste. Sorting your recycling correctly is just as crucial in order for it to be recycled properly. Unfortunately, with all the different types of recyclables out there, it can be tricky to keep everything sorted correctly. This is where commingled recycling comes into play.

Vulcan Wire is proud to use recycled materials in their products. To find out more check out our inventory of wire here.

What is Commingled Recycling?

If you’ve ever stepped into a recycling center, you know sorting recyclables can be confusing, time-consuming, and downright frustrating. However, there’s a new method of recycling that’s much simpler and more efficient: commingled recycling.

With commingled recycling, they place all recyclable materials into a single bin, which is then sorted at a recycling facility. This means that consumers don’t have to spend time carefully separating their paper from their plastic; they can simply throw everything into the same bin.

In addition, commingled recycling reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, since recycled materials can easily create new products. Consequently, commingled recycling is not only easier for consumers but also better for the environment.

Since most people look at recycling as an extra hassle–especially when having to separate all the different types of recyclables–recycling everything in one place makes it much easier. The hope is more people will recycle, and as a result, there will be less waste in landfills and incinerators.

Other benefits of commingled recycling involve the speed and ease. Plus, it doesn’t require as much energy to recycle materials that have already been mixed together.

What Is The Recycling Sorting Table?

A recycling sorting table is where all the mixed recyclables, like cardboard, shredded paper, aluminum, scrap metal, and plastic, go to be sorted by a machine. The items are then placed on a conveyor belt that moves the recyclables past a series of workers. The workers then grab the items and place them into the corresponding chutes depending on the type of recyclable it is.

For example, they will place aluminum cans into one chute, glass bottles in another, and plastic bottles in yet another. Once the items are sorted, they are sent to the appropriate recycling facility where they will become new products.

Without the recycling sorting table, it would be nearly impossible to recycle commingled materials effectively. Therefore, the sorting table is a crucial part of the recycling process.
